For Forward Deployed Engineers

Find your next FDE role through someone who does the job

Before you interview with a team, we tell you how its deployments are scoped, how much travel the role carries, who you'd report to, and whether there's already an FDE team or you'd be the first one.

Why apply through us

Roles that match what you asked for

We only bring you roles that fit what you told us you want. If a team looks set up to burn its FDEs out, we'll tell you before you decide whether to talk to them.

Vetted once, introduced many times

You do our core vetting once. Your scorecard goes with every introduction, so you don't sit the same first round at each company.

What the team looks like

We tell you how the team is structured and whether FDEs there have moved up, so you aren't finding out in your third month.

Feedback after every stage

We send you specific notes after each stage, whether you move forward or not.

How it works

1. Apply

It takes about two minutes. Send us your LinkedIn and tell us what you want next.

2. Talk to an FDE

We have a short chat about deployments you've shipped. We'll email you within 2 business days to set it up.

3. Get vetted

You write working code against a messy API, then run a live customer role-play. You only do this once.

4. Meet teams

We prep you for each team's process, and your profile only goes to teams you've said yes to.

Not an FDE yet?

Engineers who want more time with customers, and solutions or support pros who want to ship code, make some of the best FDEs. We're building a program to help you make the jump.

Apply as an FDE

Show us what you've shipped and who you've shipped it for. An FDE reads every application and replies within 2 business days, even when the answer is not yet.

  • You get real feedback on your role-play, whether you pass or not.
  • Nothing goes to a company without your OK.
  • We only work on FDE roles and the deployment roles beside them.

Application received.

An FDE will read it and reply within 2 business days. While you wait, think about the messiest customer you've shipped for, because we'll ask about it.

Questions from FDEs

Anything we haven't covered? Email us at hello@embedhire.com.

Do I need "FDE" in my title?

No. Plenty of strong FDEs never had the title. If you've written production code and worked directly with customers, apply. Solutions engineers, consultants and technical support leads who ship code often turn out to be the strongest candidates. If FDE isn't what you're after, we also place deployment strategists and solutions engineers.

Will you send my resume anywhere without asking?

No. Before anything leaves us, we tell you who the company is, what the role involves day to day, how much travel it carries and why we think it fits. Your profile only goes to teams you've said yes to.

How long does the vetting take?

About 90 minutes in total: a technical screen and a customer role-play. You do this core vetting once, and your scorecard comes with you to every introduction, so you skip repeat first rounds. Before we introduce you to a team, there's one short extra role-play built around their customers. We'll tell you when, and prep you for it.

What is the customer role-play like?

It's a live call with a "customer" who has a messy problem and a skeptical boss. We don't use trick questions. We're looking at how you scope, how you listen and how you handle pushback, the same things you do on a real deployment. We'll tell you how you did either way.

What happens to my profile after I'm vetted?

It stays with us until you say otherwise. When a role fits, we tell you the company, the team and why we think it's right. You say yes or no, and nothing goes out until you do.

What if I'm happy where I am?

Apply anyway. Getting vetted once means you're ready when the right role shows up, and we'll only bring you roles that clear the bar you set. If nothing does, you won't hear a pitch from us.
